Olympique de Marseille face Manchester United on Wednesday, 23 February 2011 at 19:45 GMT for the First Leg of the UEFA Champions League Knockout Stages at Stade Velodrome, in Marseille, France. After beating Saint-Etienne 2-1 in the Ligue 1, Marseille host the current Premier League leaders Manchester United on their turf to battle for a place in the Quarter Finals. Currently, Didier Deschamps side are third in their domestic league with 42 points, just three points behind Lille, the L1 leaders. Manchester United, meanwhile, are currently in the summit of the EPL, with four points clear of Arsenal.

Marseille progressed to the Last-16 as second of the Group F, behind Chelsea but they did manage to beat Carlo Ancelotti's men' 1-0 at the Stade Velodrome in their final Group F encounter. Manchester United qualified into the Knockout stages after topping Group C on 14 points without losing a game, ahead of Valencia.

Didier Deschamps could have to desist his 4-3-3 after injuries to his three first-choice strikers: Matthieu Valbuena (ankle knock), Loic Remy (heel), Brandao (ankle) and his star André-Pierre Gignac (£14.7m transfer from from Toulouse). The most in-form player of Marseille will definitely miss the match, a slight tear of a quadriceps will rule him out for up to two weeks. The only positive note to emerge from last League One's game was the fine performance of stalwart  Lucho González.

The midfielder could be out for around two months, after damaging medial ligaments in his knee during Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Crawley Town. Berbatov and Rooney are both prepared to form a devastating duo in attack.
